Laser Hair Removal - Candela Gentlelase
Our technologically advanced lasers can be used to remove unwanted facial and body hair. The laser is pulsed (turned on) for a millisecond emitting a beam of light on to the skin. The light energy from the laser passes harmlessly through the skin and is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle and hair shaft. The hair follicles are then disabled, impairing their ability to grow. Laser treatment is effective when hair growth is new; therefore, several treatments may be necessary in order to effectively treat the area. Since the laser does no damage to the skin, a bandage is unnecessary. Typically the skin is slightly red for a day or two. Sunscreen and sun avoidance of treated area are necessary for up to one week after the treatment.

What can I expect during treatment?
Before treatment, it is important to make sure that any unwanted hair is cut, flush with the skin. The treatment can last from a few minutes (upper lip) to an hour (back) depending on the size of the area.

While there is some discomfort, patients agree that the procedure is not unduly painful, and certainly much less uncomfortable than electrolysis. To reduce discomfort, a cooling system automatically removes heat from the surface of your skin before, during and after the laser exposure. If needed, a topical anesthetic cream may be applied to sensitive areas.

How many treatments will be needed?
Laser treatment is effective when hair growth is new. Since all hair follicles are not active at the same time, several treatments with a few weeks in between may be required to obtain the optimal effect. The number of treatments required also varies according to hair density, hair color, skin type and the size and location of the treatment area. These factors are affected by many things; such as your age, ethnic background, hormones and medications.

Intense Pulse Light (IPL) - Laser and facial rejuvenation and removal of sun spots:
The term “sun spots” is typically used instead of “age spots”. Sun spots form as the skin discolors with age and sun damage. Intense Pulse Light treatment offers many benefits including little or no pain, no needles for most patients, less bruising and swelling once removed, and a typically permanent result. During the treatment the light is absorbed by red blood cells and the melanin/pigment. Through heat, the unwanted cells are destroyed leaving healthy cells intact. Most patients feel a stinging sensation as laser pulses enter the skin. If necessary, a topical anesthetic can be added for comfort. Treatments usually take only a few minutes depending on the number, size, and location of the sun spots.

Following laser treatment, there may be a little discoloration. A crust will form several days after the treatment but will fall off within 7 and 14 days. Rarely, some discoloration may occur for several months. One or two treatments are all that is necessary except for larger, darker spots that may require and additional treatment. Over time, sun spots will not reappear. Protective sunscreen is highly recommended.

What are the benefits?
Intense Pulse Light has the unique capacity to treat multiple symptoms of aging skin on your entire face in each treatment session. Among these are fine lines, red blemishes, mottled coloration, broken blood vessels, pigment discoloration such as freckles and age spots, enlarged pores, coarse or rough skin, loss of skin tone and elasticity, and general sun damage. The result is a fresher, smooth and revitalized facial appearance. It can also treat spots, discolored areas and other tell-tale signs of aging on your hands, chest and neck.

How does it work?
The light is attracted to pigmented areas, where it is converted to heat, causing a break-up in the pigment. In the case of broken capillaries, the “pigment” is the red blood cells that are visible under the skin. The light and heat irritate the lining of the targeted vessels, causing inflammation and eventual destruction. Once destroyed, the capillaries can no longer carry blood, and no longer appear red. There is no harm in eliminating these vessels. A doctor will analyze your skin condition and help you select the most effective treatment for you. Treatments are customized to your specific skin type and color, providing the best possible results.

When will you see results?
Effects are cumulative. After the first treatment you will see improvements to broken capillaries, small facial veins and some discoloration within a few days. Improvements to skin tone and texture will be subtle and may take one to three months. Others may suggest that you look more rested. However, with each subsequent treatment, changes will accumulate until you have achieved the improved appearance and texture you desire.

How long will it take?
This treatment takes approximately 30-60 minutes.
